Wild Things

Miss Vanderhoof provided lots of art materials for the students to make their own "Wild Thing". They also made a little book to describe their favorite part of the book by Maurice Sendak. When they were finished with their two squares, she stapled them on the bulletin board to make a 1st grade quilt. It's awesome!

St. Patrick's Day Math

Each table of kids created a different part of a leprechaun and this is the final product. Pretty cute! The leprechaun ladders were useful for Shawn O'Casey to climb up to inspect their work and leave a treat. For our math games we worked on many skills: place value, missing addends, measurement, money, graphing, addition, and subtraction.

Another new student!

A. has moved back into the area from Taiwan. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. I taught his sister two years ago. We are very excited to have him join our circle of friends.

Sign Language

The children are learning to say many phrases, as well as finger spell their names so they can video some questions to Miss Vanderhoof's friends in the Ogden School for the Deaf.

Money, Money, Money

They are learning to make fair trades to keep adding to $1.oo.

Bank-O is a money Bingo game

This partner game is called Buried Treasure.

Race to $1.oo by rolling the dice and adding pennies and dimes.
They reach into a sock to pull a coin out. Their partner then tries to match the same coin in their sock without looking. They can do it almost as well as blind people.

Rollin' in the Dough game discriminates dimes and nickels.

Dr. Seuss Day

Tuesday, March 2nd, was Dr. Seuss' birthday. We celebrated "Read Across America" by inviting our 4th grade buddies to listen to us read or read Dr. Seuss books to us. The PTA provided cake for lunch.

Place Value Math Menus

Place value is one of the most important and difficult concepts in math. The students have been exploring place value with many activities that will help them understand it.

Jr. Achievement

Mrs. Messenger has done a superb job with teaching about neighborhoods, jobs, wants and needs, and maps for our Jr. Achievement lessons. She will finish the 5th lesson on Wed. We
want to thank her.

Welcome!

We have another new boy! He has
come to us from Kearns. He is so
friendly and nice, so he has easily
joined our circle of friends.

Arthur

As a culminating activity for our study of Marc Brown, the author of the Arthur series, we painted Arthur masks and cooperated on making Arthur puzzles. I saved the special two holed milk cartons for a whole year. I showed the students how to recycle other milk cartons for other favorite book characters.
